PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for the purpose of easily exchanging and recycling contact glass, for preventing the contact glass from being damaged when detaching the glass and further for preventing dust or the like from entering the apparatus when operating an image read unit. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus in which the image read unit with a CCD and an optical system integrated therein is disposed within a main body frame so as to reciprocate in a predetermined direction and which comprises the contact glass for placing an image reading document on an upper surface of the main body frame, the main body frame includes a lower frame in which the image reading unit is housed so as to reciprocate in a lengthwise direction of a main body and of which the upside is opened, and an upper frame which includes a contact glass mounting space on its upper surface, both the upper and lower frames are assembled so as to separate each other via fitting parts which are provided on both the frames, and a glass receiving part protruded from the lower frame is provided on the lower surface of the contact glass.
