<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate installation of a pilot signal generator 21 monitoring the state of a signal of an uplink line and to transmit a pilot signal to the uplink line by a simple and inexpensive method. <P>SOLUTION: The two-way CATV amplifier 3 provided with a status monitor unit 18 includes the pilot signal generator 21 for outputting a high frequency signal with an uplink band to the uplink line of the CATV system and the pilot signal being the high frequency signal with the uplink band outputted from the pilot signal generator 21 is transmitted to the uplink line via the status monitor unit 18.
