<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which realizes at a low cost, both prevention of operation failures of a cutter or the like due to piling of chips, and countermeasures against live insertion/extraction of a memory card. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 10 consists of a body 11 and a trash box 12. Slots 16 and 17 for loading the memory cards 13 and 14 are formed at a front face of the body 11. A card reader is set at the back of the slots 16 and 17, and the cutter for cutting a recording paper is arranged below the card reader. The trash box 12 consists of a storage part 26 for storing cut chips, and a cover part 27 for covering the slots 16 and 17. These are set in one body. When the memory cards 13 and 14 are to be inserted to the slots 16 and 17 at the time of printing, the trash box 12 is removed. A piling state of the cut chips in the storage part 26 is confirmed at this time.
