<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional technology by providing a battery capable of improving a low-temperature heavy-load discharge characteristic without deteriorating an over discharging characteristic at high temperature for achieving a high capacity. <P>SOLUTION: This zinc alkaline battery is provided with a bottomed cylindrical positive electrode can serving as a positive electrode terminal and a container, a positive electrode, which is arranged in the positive electrode can, shaped into a hollow cylinder, and formed of a positive electrode mixture containing oxynickel hydroxide coated with a cobalt compound, and a gel type zinc negative electrode filled in a hollow part of the positive electrode mixture via a bottomed cylindrical separator.
