<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical retardation compensation film having sufficiently large retardations R<SB>e</SB>, R<SB>th</SB>as it is, capable of improving the viewing angle dependency and contrast of a liquid crystal display, and substitutable as a protective film of a polarizer. <P>SOLUTION: The optical retardation compensation film is obtained by stretching a cycloolefin resin film, has a plane retardation R<SB>e</SB>and a retardation R<SB>th</SB>in the thickness direction satisfying specified conditions, and has a water vapor permeability of 5-200 g/m<SP>2</SP>/day. The optical retardation compensation film can optically compensate light converted to elliptically polarized light by passing through a liquid crystal cell. This optical retardationphase difference compensation film is used, thereby obtaining the liquid crystal display improved in contrast and viewing angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
