PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of forming a protective film having high shape retention capability with a simple method without causing stress rupture of an organic EL structure. SOLUTION: This organic EL element has an organic EL display part 12 including at least one organic EL structure on a substrate 1, and is composed by coating the surface of the display part 12 with a curing type resin layer 8. The resin layer 8 makes contact with the display part 12 through a cure-inhibiting material 7 for inhibiting the cure of the curing type resin constituting the resin layer 8. Thereby, film stress is relaxed by making only the curing type resin at a place contacting the organic EL display part non-cured to prevent the stress rupture of the organic EL element, and the shape retention capability of the entire element by the curing type resin layer can be enhanced by curing parts excluding the place.
