PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a portable terminal apparatus capable of further reducing the uncomfortable feelings given to the neighboring people by the ringer tones by performing control more suited to the surrounding situations than the conventional ringer tone level control. SOLUTION: From an incoming call to the portable terminal apparatus to the user's response to the call, the ambient lightness is determined at a predetermined time interval on the basis of a video signal from a camera of the portable terminal apparatus. When it is bright around the portable terminal apparatus, a present ringer tone volume is decreased by one level (step A10) and when it is dark around the portable terminal apparatus, the present ringer tone volume is increased by one level (step A11).
