1,270,972. Electric motors. J. BRAY. 24 June, 1970 [15 April, 1969; 9 Aug., 1969], Nos. 19150/69 and 39927/69. Heading H2A. A statorless A.C. motor comprises a circular rotor plate 1 having an even number of circumferential slots through adjacent ones of which a magnetic flux is axially and oppositely directed by a magnetic circuit 2 rotating with the plate and separated from the sides of the slots by gaps, transverse gaps 8 also being provided in the magnetic circuit on opposite sides of each slot. As shown, the plate has two slots and the gaps between them and the magnetic circuit, which may be permanently magnetized or excited by coils 4, are filled with insulating material 7. It is stated that when single-phase A.C. is supplied to diametrically opposed brushes 5, 6 contacting the plate, the latter rotates synchronously. Other embodiments employing a rotor plate with four slots and an appropriate number of brushes for single and three phase working are described. |
