1,271,629. Coating surfaces. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 18 Jan., 1971 [16 March, 1970], No. 2241/71. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] A surface such as of metal is protected against corrosion by (a) applying to the surface a composition comprising (1) 75-99.9 parts of thixotropic, grease-like composition comprising (i) 2-80 parts of a non-volatile diluent, (ii) 5-55 parts oil-soluble dispersing agent and (iii) 1-45 parts of an alkaline metal carbonate, and (2) 0.1-25 parts of a polymer which has a low degree of crystallinity, a molecular weight of 3,000 to 1,000,000 and a high solubility in predominately aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, and (b) applying to the coated surface a conventional paint. The thixotropic, grease-like composition is as described in British Specification No, 1,228,305. The polymer may be a polyterpene, an amorphous polypropylene, a low molecular weight polyethylene, polyisobutylene, an ethylene-isobutyl acrylate copolymer, an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, or a phenol-modified coumaroneindene resin. The conventional paint is also as described in British Specification 1,228,305.
|
