PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for tire treads excellent in abrasion resistance and low in heat build-up. SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises 100 pts.wt. diene rubber consisting of 50-90 wt.% natural rubber and 10-50 wt.% synthetic diene rubber and 36-60 pts.wt. carbon black. The carbon black has a nitrogen adsorption specific surface area of 140-180 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a CTAB adsorption specific surface area of 110-165 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a difference between the nitrogen adsorption specific surface area and the CTAB adsorption specific surface area of 15-30 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and specific tinting power of 125-150%.
