1,271,327. Carbon black. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 22 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 26229/69. Heading C1A. Carbon black is produced by introducing a stream of hot combustion gas or fuel and free oxygen-containing gases through conduits 7 and 8 into a first zone 2 and accelerating this gas stream by means of a constriction (choke) 15 in zone 2. Hydrocarbon feedstock is introduced into this stream of higher velocity gas through discharge nozzle 12 and the gas is expanded through a second zone comprising at least one section, such as at 3 and 30, each section being of successively larger diameter, and of larger diameter than that of the first zone, into a third zone 4, of diameter larger than any other zone, where additional combustion gas is introduced through inlets 9. The reactant mass is then fed into a reaction zone 5 where the carbon black is formed. The choke may be of cylindrical or frusto-conical cross-section as in Specification 1,259,313. The choke and/or the hydrocarbon feed conduit may be axially movable within the first zone.
|
