[Also in Division B5] An apparatus for producing disposable diapers comprises 1) means for continuously producing and advancing finished absorption bodies 24, 2) a perforated conveyer belt 44, extending over a suction box 45, over which a plastics web 43 is forwarded, 3) rolls 53, 54 for providing slits in the edges of the web 43 whereby it can conform to a child's body, 4) an adhesive applicator 51, 5) a plate for pressing the adhesive-coated web 43 and bodies 24 together, and 6) a roll pair 57, 58 for severing the plastics web. As shown, a cellulose tissue web 10, a batt 12 of defibrated cellulose, a cellulose tissue web 14 and a non- woven fibrous web 19 are fed over endless belts 8, 23 and web 19 is folded down under web 10 by a folder 21 to form a continuous string 22 of absorption bodies. The string is cut into individual bodies by a roll pair 25, 26 provided with compressing and embossing elements and a roll pair 27, 28 provided with cutting edges 30. To the web 43, which may be of plastics-coated cellulose tissue, polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, are applied adhesive strips, for connecting parts of the finished diaper when in use, from applicators 49, 50 (50 not shown). The application of adhesive at 51 may be regulated by an electric signal caused by the body 24 actuating a switch. The rolls for providing slits in the web comprise a roll 53 having a smooth surface, and a roll 54, provided with cutting edges 55. The press plate 55<SP>1</SP> may fold the edges of the web 43 over the bodies 24. |
