PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the height of floating from being decreased due to the decrease in the atmospheric pressure at highlands, after the floating profile on the ground level is made approximately uniform, and to make the decrease in the height of floating approximately constant over the whole surface of a magnetic disk, in a magnetic head slider equipped with an air inflow edge and an air outflow edge. SOLUTION: The slider or the magnetic disk having the slider is provided with a front step bearing formed on the side of the inflow edge, a rail surface formed between the front step bearing and the outflow edge, and a first and a second side pads disposed facing each other with respect to the width direction of the slider and formed between the rail surface and the outflow edge, in which the length of the first or the second side pad with respect to the width direction of the slider is longer than the length with respective to the length direction of the slider.
