PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel surgical instruments for arthroscopic operation instruments useful for passing a suture in arthroscopic surgical procedures. SOLUTION: The suture passer instrument has a frame 10 having a proximal end, a distal end and a longitudinal passage, a bottom jaw member 180 having a passage for receiving a suture needle, a top jaw member 230 having a distal opening for receiving a cartridge member, a handle member 40 having a cavity, a jaw actuation member 60 having a top end and a bottom end, a needle rod driving trigger member 110 having a top and a bottom, a jaw actuation rod 280 having a proximal end and a distal end and slidably mounted in the passage of the frame, a needle actuation rod 260 having a proximal end mounted to the needle rod driving trigger member and a distal end for engaging a suture needle, and a needle passage 210 having a distal opening which opens passing through above the bottom jaw member provided therein and a proximal opening in communication with the longitudinal passage of the frame.
