PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for remotely reproducing a content with which a client is set as a remote controller.

SOLUTION: Setting of a control instance permitting remote control is requested from a media renderer from a client unit. The control instance corresponding to a request is set in the media renderer. Content reproduction is controlled based on the control request from the client designating the control instance. The content can remotely be reproduced and the media renderer can securely be selected based on support protocol information on the media renderer and content metadata.
