<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor (OCIF) and provide a method for efficiently producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A protein having activity for inhibiting differentiation and/or maturity of osteoclast is obtained and a method for producing the same is provided. The protein is produced with Homo sapiens foetal pulmonary fibroblasts and has about 60 KD molecular weight in a reducing condition and about 120 KD molecular weight in a non-reducing condition. The protein is isolated and purified from a culture solution of the fibroblast cells. The protein is also produced in genetic engineering.
