PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of preventing recovery of a manuscript to be copied from a user by hardware while stopping output of a manuscript image by software if a manuscript to be copied is a copy inhibited material, in order to reduce possibility of counterfeiting again using the same manuscript, and also preventing cooking of the image data using a personal computer etc. by deleting the image data read from the manuscript and memorized in an image memory etc. on this occasion. SOLUTION: An image is read from a manuscript (S1), and when it is decided that image data of the manuscript memorized in an image memory are copy inhibited material (S3), a manuscript mat provided at the image processing apparatus is locked (S4), and the image data of the manuscript are also eliminated from the image memory (S6). In order to release the lock imposed on the manuscript mat, it is necessary to input a lock release password from a display control unit etc. provided at the image processing apparatus (S7).
