PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination apparatus for a liquid crystal display with improved visibility used in electronic equipment. SOLUTION: The illumination apparatus for a liquid crystal display comprises a liquid crystal display apparatus 3, a main illuminator 1 turned on in the normal state to maintain visibility of a displayed content of the liquid crystal display apparatus 3 and an auxiliary illuminator 2 turned off in the normal state and turned on for noticing in a waiting period to illuminate the liquid crystal display apparatus 3. Thereby, the visibility is heightened even in noticing reception of information in the waiting period, compared with the case of using a dedicated compact display apparatus, because the normally used liquid crystal display apparatus 3 itself, with larger area, is used.
