The packaging for fruit e.g. plums, to be placed on a layer of dough, has a flat base (2) with three surrounding walls (21-23) where the fruit (4) is laid in the required orientation (P2) for positioning on the dough. At least one section (1) open at the top and bottom, to surround the fruit, is placed over the laid fruit with a surrounding wall (11), so that the base can slide against the wall. The packaging is placed over the dough, and the base is pulled clear.
