<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device in which track omission can be reduced with a simple constitution even when a level difference between output of pilot signals f1 and f2 is present. <P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording and reproducing device 11 employs a head system used for both SP-mode/LP-mode. In the head system, two kinds of pilot signals for tracking having different frequencies are superimposed on an information signal at every other track of a tape type magnetic recording medium 20 and recorded, the pilot signal is read out, rotation of a capstan motor is controlled based on a tracking error signal and tracking control is performed. Also, the magnetic recording and reproducing device 11 has a means 1 detecting pilot signals from all tracks in the LP mode, calculates respective pilot signals outputted when a track on which the pilot signal is superimposed and a track on which the pilot signal is not superimposed are scanned, and performs tracking control so that an end part of a head matches with a boundary of the track based on the above calculation even when level difference is present in the pilot signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
