PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonhuman animal model of transient forbrain ischaemia quantitatively and reproducibly causing ischemic nerve cell death in a hippocampus CAI region without individual difference; and to provide a method for creating the animal model, and utilization of the animal model. SOLUTION: This nonhuman animal model of the transient forbrain ischaemia quantitatively and reproducibly causing the ischemic nerve cell death in the hippocampus CAI region without individual difference is created by closing the carotid artery and the basilar artery of the nonhuman animal such as a mouse by a closing means and for a closing time by which the ischemic nerve cell death in the hippocampus CAI region is reproducibly caused without the individual difference. A blood vessel-nipping miniature clip urged so as to minimally press the carotid artery and the basilar artery without causing imperfect clipping to close the carotid artery and the basilar artery without causing the damage to the brain stem is used as the closing means. Closing time for about 14 min is used as the closing time in which the ischemic nerve cell death is reproducibly caused without the individual difference. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
