Process to discharge organic wastes from a gas-tight hopper into a solid bed reactor under nitrogen pressure

A solid bed reactor (2) converts organic waste materials (3) into gas. The reactor receives an intermittent top-down replenishment feed as required from a gas-tight hopper (1) with a valve-controlled discharge outlet, with simultaneous introduction of pressurised gas at the top and bottom of the reactor. The feed (3) is a charge of pure organic materials, or a mixture of organic materials and coal. The (top) closed hopper discharges to the reactor aided by nitrogen at about the same pressure as the gas in the reactor. The wastes in the hopper may be exposed to gas pressure from above and/or below.
