Nano-scale particles are present as a third component (1.3) in a wear-resistant polymer composite material (I) comprising (1.1) matrix-forming polymer(s) and (1.2) filler(s) selected from aramid, glass or carbon fibres, glass spheres, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), graphite and silicones. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the production of (I) by temperature-conditioning the above components, mechanically mixing, transferring to a suitable mould and polymerising the mixture (2) abrasion-resistant composites (I) for use in plain bearings, gear wheels and gaskets .
