PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial manufacturing method of trans- and cis-trifluoromethylcinnamyl alcohol which are important intermediates for medicines and agricultural chemicals. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method, trifluoromethylhalobenzene is reacted with propargyl alcohol in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a basic substance, and the obtained (trifluoromethylphenyl)-2-propyn-1-ol is regioselectively reduced to yield trans- or cis-trifluoromethylcinnamyl alcohol.
