[Also in Division C3] Liquid organotin stabilizers for vinyl resins (see Division C3) have the formula where R is a C 16 -C 18 alkenyl, hydroxyalkenyl or branched alkyl group. Specified R groups are 9-octadecen-1-yl (oleyl), 12-hydroxy-9-octadecen-1-yl (ricinoleyl), and 2-hexyldecyl (examples describe the preparation of these), and 2-octyldecyl, 8-hexadecen-1-yl and 16-hydroxy-7- hexadecen-1-yl. The compounds may be prepared by reacting dibutyltin oxide and the appropriate maleic acid monoester in a solvent. |
