PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL display device such that an area other than a display area can be made small. SOLUTION: In this EL display device, IC chips 3 to 7 are mounted on a substrate 2 and covered with an insulating coating film 8. On the insulating coating film 8, display parts 9, 10 and 11 are formed. The display parts 9, 10 and 11 each comprise a plurality of scanning lines which are laterally long and formed on the insulating coating film 8 side by side in parallel to one another, a plurality of transparent signal lines which are arrayed orthogonally to the scanning lines, and an EL layer which is sandwiched between the scanning lines and signal lines where the scanning line and signal lines cross each other.
