PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base paper for a photographic printing paper and a method for manufacturing the same by which contamination in a paper making system is prevented while maintaining infiltration resistance and the base paper can be manufactured with good operation efficiency. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a base paper for a photographic printing paper, a pulp slurry containing at least (A) a polyamide-polyamine-epichlorohydrin resin, (B) a cationized starch and (C) an alkylketene dimer is prepared by adding the component A in two stages before and after adding the component B, and paper making is carried out using the pulp slurry.
