PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the breaking of a worm gear due to an impact force from the outside in a lens driver containing the worm gear and a worm wheel as a drive mechanism for driving a lens retaining member in the optical axis direction. SOLUTION: In a constitution provided with the lens retaining member 41 which retains a lens and is supported freely movably in the optical axis direction and the drive mechanism which contains at least one set of the worm gear and the worm wheel of transmitting a driving force for moving the lens retaining member 41, the worm gear 73 arranged nearest to the lens retaining member 41 is freely movably supported in the thrust direction and both sides are energized by springs 78, 79. Thereby, a rotation force of the worm wheel 74 moves the worm gear 73 in the thrust direction and distorts the spring 78 or the spring 79 and, therefore, the impact force is absorbed.
