PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact illumination apparatus for checking outer circumference for preventing an illumination light source from being reflected by a reflection material and reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: The illumination apparatus for checking outer circumference 1 has a case 2 having an overall ring shape, and is used for checking an cylindrical outer circumference of a cylindrical tested object W disposed in the center of the ring case 2. The outer circumference checking illumination apparatus 1 also has a plurality of point light sources 3 disposed along the entire inner circumferential end of the ring case 2, a light-guiding and diffusing plate 5 disposed within the ring case 2 and diffusing lights emitted from the point light sources 3, and a half mirror 6 disposed in between the light-guiding and diffusing plate 5 and the tested object W disposed in the center of the ring case 2 for transmitting the lights emitted from the point light sources 3 via the light-guiding and diffusing plate 5 and reflecting the reflected light from the tested object W. When the half mirror 6 is photographed by a camera 7, the cylindrical outer circumference of the object W of testing as an inspected face is captured as an image having a doughnut shape.
