PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine having an oil return hole structure capable of reducing thickness of a thick-walled cylinder block part below a cylinder head bolt hole and of extending the lower end of an oil return hole to a block lower face position. SOLUTION: In this cylinder block 10 for the internal combustion engine, the cylinder head bolt hole 15 and the oil return hole 11 are provided for a journal part between cylinders. A thickness reduction hole 12 extending laterally is provided for the cylinder block part 16 below the cylinder head bolt hole 15, and is communicated with an oil return hole part 13 extending downwardly from a cylinder block upper face 17 and an oil return hole part 14 extending upwardly from a cylinder block lower face 18.
