<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric transfer element of high performance having superior photoelectric transfer characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: This photoelectric transfer element uses a colorant as shown by a general formula (1). In the formula, R<SB>1</SB>shows an alkyl group, aralkyl group, alkenyl group, aryl group, and heterocyclic ring. R<SB>2</SB>shows a coupling group forming a cyclic structure together with a nitrogen atom. Or it may form a ring by being combined with a benzene ring which is combined with R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>or R<SB>1</SB>and a nitrogen atom. R<SB>3</SB>shows a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, halogen atom, R<SB>4</SB>shows a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, an halogen group, and R<SB>5</SB>shows a coupling group of direct bond or a bivalent coupling group. R<SB>6</SB>shows a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group, and heterocyclic ring.
