PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device which realizes both less power consumption and picture quality free of luminance variance. SOLUTION: The plasma display device is equipped with an electric power recovery part 411 which applies a voltage to a display electrode from a recovery capacitor 411 through a coil 412, a voltage clamp part 420 which applies a voltage to the display electrode from a maintaining power source 421, a switch part 430 which switches the electric power recovering part 410 and voltage clamp part 420, and an APL detecting circuit 160 which detects the average luminance level (APL) of a video signal. When the APL is smaller than a threshold, the electric power recovering part 410 is switched to the voltage clamp part 420 after a discharge cell is discharged and when the APL is larger than the threshold, the electric power recovery part 410 is switched to the voltage clamp part 420 before the discharge cell is discharged.
