PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin chip type variable resistor which adjusts its resistance value. SOLUTION: The chip type variable resistor comprises: an insulating board 1 having an arcuate resistance film 2 and terminal electrodes 3, 4 provided at both ends of the film; a rotor member 6 having a contact part 6f contacted with a resistance film; a ceiling plate 5a parallel to the upper surface of the insulating board; a pair of side plates 5b, 5c extended from the ceiling plate and downward of both of left and right side surfaces of the insulating board; and a bracket member 5 of a thin metallic plate also as an intermediate terminal electrode which has inward plates 5d, 5e contacted with the lower surface of the insulating board from the both side plates, and which is mounted in such a manner as to hold the both left and right sides. The rotor member is provided between the ceiling plate and the insulating board, a shaft part 6b provided at the lower end of the rotor member is fitted pivotably into a shaft accommodation hole 1e provided in the insulating board, and the rotor member is rotatably inserted so that the upper surface of the rotor member is contacted with the lower surface of the ceiling plate.
