PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a newsprint paper easily controlling color tone and a method for producing the newsprint paper. SOLUTION: The newsprint paper produced by using a plurality of kinds of pulp as main raw material and having color tone with excellent color developing property contains at least two kinds of basic dyes and has a surface color tone controlled to L=75.0 to 80.0, a=-3.50 to 0.50 and b=3.50 to 7.50 measured according to JIS Z-8722.
