METHOD FOR PRODUCING HEAT-RESISTANT EPOXY RESIN HAVING EXCELLENT TRANSPARENCY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a heat-resistant epoxy resin having excellent transparency and suitable for a display material, an optical element and a light modulation device required to have transparency and heat-resistance. SOLUTION: This epoxy resin is produced by reacting a bis(hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (BHPF) expressed by formula (1) (R is an alkyl; and (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0-3) with epichlorohydrin. The BHPF satisfying (A) a yellow index (YI value) of≤6 measured on a solution of 4 g of BHPF in 100 mL of methyl ethyl ketone in 10 mm light path and (B) a fluorenone content of≤100 ppm is used in the process to obtain the epoxy resin having an APHA hue of≤120.
