A coil (21,22) of the solenoid valve is driven by a drive signal from a control device (20). The control device determines the resistance (R1,R2) of the coil and calculates the temperature (T1,T2) of the valve based on a reference resistance (RRef) of the coil at a reference temperature (TRef) and the temperature coefficient (alpha) of a material of the coil. An independent claim is included for a method of operating a solenoid control valve.
