The method involves providing a non-recursive model-filter with M coefficients, representing a filter chain connected to the output of the crest-factor reduction circuit. The impulse response of the filter chain is determined. Filter coefficients are determined for an optimized model filter by approximation using a window of defined length M, in which the impulse response has the highest energy content. An independent claim is included for a circuit for crest-factor reduction.
