<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent effectively a voltage drop due to the delay of temperature rises in end side generating cells and improve, particularly, low temperature starting characteristics by a simple and economical structure. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell stack 10 comprises a laminated body 14 laminating a plurality of generating cells 12, and dummy cells 16 are arranged at both ends in the laminating direction of the laminated body 14. The dummy cell comprises a conductive plate 52 and first and second metal separators 54, 56 for interposing the conductive plate 52 between. The conductive plate 52 is constructed of, for example, a metal plate and is formed in nearly the same shape as an electrolyte membrane/electrode structure 22.
