<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect recorded data without forcing a user to carry out any special selection and work, while making the data transportable off-line. <P>SOLUTION: When a hybrid CD-R is inserted into an optical disk drive, a start control program 8 is activated (S1), and an illegal copy judging program 4 is started (S2) first from the hybrid CD-R. When the hybrid CD-R is judged as a proper disk (S4) and the data preservation is indicated (S5) from the user, a start control program 8 activates a file enciphering program 5 (S6). When the write is already being carried out to the recordable area (S7), the input of a password is requested to the user, and when the inputted password is correct (S14), setting of the term of validity of the password is requested (S9).
