PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator which has characteristics not degraded even when using a ferromagnetic material consisting of an Ni-Fe alloy as the material of a polarizing plate holder and can be used for a long period of time by suppressing the occurrence of cracks or the like. SOLUTION: The optical isolator has a cylindrical magnet 4, Faraday rotator 3 arranged in an aperture part of the cylindrical magnet 4, and a pair of polarizing plates 1 and 2 which are arranged in both ends of the aperture part of the cylindrical magnet 4 respectively and have the Faraday rotator 3 interposed between themselves. The polarizing plates 1 and 2 are fixed to cylindrical holders 5 and 5 made of a ferromagnetic material with an adhesive 11, and the cylindrical magnet 4 is involved in a cylindrical case 8 made of a non-magnetic material. The cylindrical holders 5 and 6 are made of an Ni-Fe ferromagnetic material containing 47 to 65 mass% Ni, and the cylindrical holders 5 and 6 and the cylindrical case 8 are coupled by spot welding.
