The present invention comprises a preamplifier that establishes a bandwidth for performing amplification with a variable feedback resistor responsive to a control signal; control signal generating means that determines the band of the output signal of the preamplifier to generate the control signal; and correction signal generating means that generates a correction signal for correcting the control signal; wherein the correction signal corrects the control signal to adjust the value of the variable feedback resistor, whereby even when the number of rising and falling edges of light input signals in a given time period is lower than a predetermined value, the control voltage can be appropriately generated to perform a successful band control. Thus, an optical receiver that can automatically adjust the bandwidth with no influence of input signal pattern dependency can be obtained, and the cost can be reduced.
