<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing a methacrylic acid ester in high yield by a gas-phase catalytic reaction of a propionic acid ester and formaldehyde and/or derivatives of formaldehyde, to provide a production method thereof and to provide a production method for producing the methacrylic acid ester in high yield. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for producing the methacrylic acid ester by the gas-phase catalytic reaction of the propionic acid ester and formaldehyde and/or derivatives of formaldehyde has a composition shown by a formula (1), wherein a silicon source having Na of ≤0.2 atom of Na per 100 atoms of Si is used as the Si source.
