<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a high quality output image is obtained at all the time by automatically obtaining, without a complex operation, information about the deviation of the thickness of a transfer belt newly attached to the apparatus, and exerting control so that the moving speed of the newly attached transfer belt is constant. <P>SOLUTION: The transfer belt is provided with belt information including, as its contents, information that is the source of the rotating speed correction data. On the other hand, the specific belt information is read to obtain information that is the source of the rotating speed correction data.
