<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition which can form a coated product with excellent hot water resistance, weather resistance, and light resistance, and an optical material. <P>SOLUTION: The coating composition comprises a silicon-containing substance and a modified metal oxide particle having a particle size of 4.5-60 nm, the particle comprising a colloid particle (A) having a particle size of 4-50 nm as a core and a coating film (B) at a weight rate (B)/(A) of 0.01-0.50 on the base of metal oxide weight, wherein the colloid particle is a tin (IV) oxide particle or a composite particle of a tin (IV) oxide particle with a zirconium oxide particle having a ZrO<SB>2</SB>: SnO<SB>2</SB>weight ratio of 0:1-0.50:1, and the coating film is an alkylamine-containing Sb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>colloid particle, its oligomer, or their mixture (B1) or a complex colloid particle of antimony pentoxide with silica, its oligomer, or their mixture (B2). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
