<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has wide viewing angle characteristics and which is excellent in display characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a plurality of pixel regions each of which is defined by a first electrode arranged on the liquid crystal layer side of a first substrate, and a second electrode opposite to the first electrode via the liquid crystal layer and arranged on a second substrate. In each pixel region, the first electrode has a plurality of opening parts and a solid part, the liquid crystal layer takes on a vertical alignment state under no voltage application, and further forms a plurality of liquid crystal domains, each of which takes on a radially-inclined alignment state by an inclined electric field generated in edge parts of the opening parts of the first electrode under voltage application, on a plurality of the opening parts and the solid part. The solid part of the first electrode has a plurality of unit solid parts and a plurality of connection parts each of which connects at least three unit solid parts to one another. The second substrate has first alignment controlling structures producing alignment controllability to make liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer on the connection parts align in a radially-inclined manner at least under voltage application in regions corresponding to the respective connection parts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
