摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film, showing excellent winding ease and traveling performance and is free from thermal deformation and sticking to a cooling can in vapor deposition process, which is useful for obtaining a metallic thin film-type magnetic recording medium having outstanding electromagnetic conversion characteristics, and a magnetic recording medium using the biaxially oriented polyester film. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film has a center surface average roughness (WRaA) of less than 5 nm and a surface average roughness (ARaA) of less than 4 nm by AFM on one surface and a center surface average roughness (WRaB) which is larger than WRaA and 4 to 15 nm and a surface average roughness (ARaB) by AMF which is larger than ARaA and 3 to 11 nm on the other surface, with electrostatic adhesion release strength of not more than 5.0 g/cm.
