PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powder for an image display device wherein an excessive increase of adhesion force of particles can be suppressed, and to provide the image display device. SOLUTION: In the powder for the image display device used for an image display panel displaying an image by encapsulating the powder consisting of one or more particle groups between two facing substrates at least one of which is transparent and applying an electric field to the particle groups to move the particles, a polymer formed by polymerizing at least one resin component monomer selected from an acrylic monomer, a methacrylic monomer and a styrenic monomer is used as a resin component of the particles which constitute the powder, at least one or more particles of the particles are produced by suspension polymerization of particle raw materials containing the resin component monomer, and at least one or more particles of the particles have≥0.5 m<SP>2</SP>/g specific surface area.
