The method involves recording multiple time-related sequential images of a section of carriageway, from a direction perpendicular to the carriageway. Those images in which the front edge and/or back edge of a vehicle is shown are selected, so that the edge occurs at least twice in the images. Image-related position data are determined from the front edge and/or the back edge, abased on the images. The speed of the vehicle and/or the length of the vehicle is determined based on the position data and the time-related data. 25 or more images may be taken per second. <??>An Independent claim is also included for a system for detecting a vehicle and vehicle-specific data. |
