<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit deterioration in accuracy of knocking determination due to affection by opening of a relief valve. <P>SOLUTION: An engine is equipped with a knocking determining device and a fuel supply device. The knocking determining device gets a detection signal of a knocking sensor in a knocking determining period TK and determines occurrence of knocking based on the gotten detection signal. In the fuel supply device, the relief valve is provided in a fuel supply passage introducing high pressure fuel from a high pressure pump to a fuel injection valve and is opened according to fuel pressure changing with operation of the high pressure pump. The high pressure pump comprises a plunger pressuring fuel and a pump cam reciprocating the plunger by rotation. A rotational phase of the pump cam is set so that timing for shifting the plunger to a top dead center where fuel pressure is maximized, or to its vicinity does not overlap the knocking determining period TK. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
