PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flash discharge lamp in which optical output distribution in a pipe axial direction of the lamp is controlled desirably, the flash discharge lamp lighting device using this, and a light irradiation device. SOLUTION: The flash discharge lamp XFL is provided with a first region 1 in which the interior cross-sectional area is S1 and a second region 2 in which the interior cross-sectional area is S2 in the pipe axial direction, and equipped with a translucent slender air-tight container SE which is formed mainly by quartz glass and satisfies a formula 1:0.3<S2/S1<0.9, a pair of electrodes E, E sealed in the inside of both ends of the air-tight container SE, a discharge medium to be sealed in the inside of the air-tight container SE and to irradiate an ultraviolet ray in discharging, and a trigger wire TW installed adjacent to the circumference of the air-tight container SE.
